Homeschool Science Enrichment Program

The Phinizy Center homeschool program has been developed with your family’s needs in mind! Our educators have designed a unique program for children and youth who are in kindergarten through 12th grade. All field trip subject matter will be age and developmentally appropriate, and students will be grouped by age. All ages meet at the same time and then break into their groups to do separate activities led by different instructors.

Our program is broken down into two separate semesters, each consisting of five sessions with a different topic every month. Sign up for the monthly series that works best, meeting either Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. All sessions run from 10:00am to 12:00pm and tend to be the 2nd week of the month, but can vary.

Registration for fall and spring semesters are separate. If you want to study with us for both semesters, be sure to register for the second semester when it opens. Register early as each group will be filled on a first-come first-served basis and fill fast.

Do your homeschool students have younger siblings?

We have a session designed just for younger siblings. This session will keep your 2 to 4 year olds engaged while their older siblings participate in our regular program. An adult is required to accompany the toddler. Please note that this group is only for younger siblings of school-aged children in the program. If you have a toddler, you should check out our Puddle Ducks program too!

OPEN HOUSE:

Register below and then join us August 3rd, 2026, 10am – 12pm for an optional drop-in Homeschool Open House! Check-in at the big picnic pavilion by the silos. Meet some of the homeschool instructors and become familiar with some of our facilities.

Homeschool Curriculum Subject Overview

Fall 2026 – Aquatic Ecosystems:

This fall, we start with a look at water habitat values and functions and continue with studies on wetland and stream ecosystems. Topics cover habitat structure, adaptions, chemistry, populations, food webs, and much more. Join us for an aquatic fun fall!

Spring 2027 — Botanical Spring:

In spring, we grow into plants with a look at the botanical world. We start with a session on plant groups and structures, then dive into system functions, adaptations, reproduction, seed dispersal, and more. The ever changing succession of our forest will be covered as well as the human impact: urban canopy, invasives, and gardening. Join our green spring!

Registration

Click on the day series in the calendar list below to register. Pay once for the whole semester.

Registration for Fall 2026 will open on July 7th.

Ages 5 and up (K-12th grade): $60/semester; Toddlers (younger siblings, 2-4): $40/semester

Grouping: We group students based on learning level, so ask what grade they are in when you register. Generally, ages and grades correlate as 5-6=K-1st, 7-8=2nd-3rd, 9-10=4th-5th, 11+=6th and up. However, please choose the grade level you believe your child is truly performing at. **To ensure a great learning experience for all students, we may adjust groups once registration is full.**

If you are having trouble registering, please email sita.alexander@phinizycenter.org. Spots fill quickly, but we keep a waitlist so please let us know your child’s birthday, grade level, and which days you would be able to attend if the group you need is full.

Choose the date series below that works best for your schedule. Not all classes fall on exactly the 2nd week of the month and the dates are visible when you click on the series.
